I went to whitby today

it was lovely, it didn't rain, walked around for aaages, saw lots of kids on school trips (reminded me of being a wee nipper), larked about on the beach, LOVELY STUFF.
recent seaside-related stories welcome!

  • Whitby? Is that not where all the vampire goths hang out?

I've not been to a beach in a while.

    • yeah it is

but not on a friday through the day.
      just school children/old people.

      • did you have fish and chips?

        • haha

          WELL i was going to.
until my friend thought she wanted a subway.
and after a short deliberation i gave in to a flippin' sub.

        • Whitby rules!

its so pretty well that bit is esspecialy hehe

          • i want to go when i come home.

is it easy to get to from leeds? i've never been.

            • we went on a school trip there once from leeds

            • Yeah pretty easy

A64 to Scarborough I'm sure even busses do that, then coastal road north to Whitby. you might even be able to get a train to Whitby. I dunno I have a car most the country isn;t to much hassel for me...

              • well look at me!

i don't have a car :( i think the train would be the best bet, i'll have to have a look nearer the time. but i wanna take my camera and build some sandcastles! oh and ice cream. mmm. i haven't seen the sea in a LONG time, except from an airplane.

                • heheh yep but its a skoda :-s

yeah the Yorkshire coast is very nice indeed. Whitby is the best place to most probibly, Scarborough is fun but a bit cheesey and tacky, Filey is full of old people, Whitby is just the right ballance. Lotsa little cool shops, fish & chips all over the place, ace views, vampire history, and a little beach.

                • .

I'm sure there's a train that goes from Leeds, theres definitely one from the boro, but thats no help.

I love Whitby also, used to spend weekends there as a kid, the fish and chips are amazing, walking up the 101 (or however many) steps to the church needs to be done, getting a lucky duck and some over priced fudge or something is another essential.

  • I <3 Whitby

It's so nice aint it and I live not to far away fom it. Did you get the classic Fish & Chips? There are so many good places for that there.

    • yeah

i live near york, and i see you do too.
      north east coastline ftw.

      • Ah yes so you do

I live not to far from Pickering, Kirkbymoorside to be exact. Middle of knowhere.

        • still lovely though

nicer than anywhere south of york, selby way.
          i.e my way.

          • heheh

yeah its ever so pretty round my way I'm very lucky.

Selby's not tobad like from my little knowledge.

I might bump into ya at Fibbers or The Dutchess hey...

  • my parents went there recently

and said they had the best fish and chips ever.

  • Filey's better

as far as the NY coast goes.

But Whitby does have Lucky Ducks. I really want another one... I miss collecting them.

    • wow

      lucky ducks sounds ace.

      what are they?

    • I really like ducks

      I acctualy wana know...

and have you been to Robbin Hoods Bay thats super pretty and quaint I love that place.

      • .

They're little glass ducks that have loads of different colours or coatings on/in them, you can get ones for you specific birth month and that lark.

Plus they're supposed to be lucky, hence the name. I used to have some as a kid and the shop is awesome cause you can watch the guy actually making them!

      • I've been to every single place

on the North Yorks coastline, I would have thought. RHB lots of times, it's lovely for sure.

        • I live

up near the moors near pickering its ever so pretty round there. I use to work for the North York Moors National Park too.

            • yeah man

I wish I could say the same about boro... :-P

I quite like some of it infact... kinda

              • .

Boro's amazing really, we just get too much undeserved bad press.

                • there is to much

abuse for it yeah your right. I have enjoyed the place every time I have been.

  • oh the moors

take me to the moors. build a shallow grave and just lay me down...-sorry for Smiths quote..have fond memories of Whitby.

  • I love Whitby so much

I went on a family holiday when I was 14, it was my favourite one ever. It was my idea, 'cause I'd read all the Robin Jarvis books, The Whitby Witches, they're amazing.

  • my friends girlfriend lives in whitby

it's an hour drive from here, so we're always there. it's quite nice.
