  • HI MIKE

just got back and showered, everyone has passed out in various areas of my house.

    IT WAS ACE

  • Just back

Hello. Brain tired. Body tired. Head hurting. Ears ringing. Actually collapsed outside Market at 8.30 due to aching feet. Will Sheff, despite it being medically impossible, I want to bear all of your children. More some other time.

    • Were you wearing

a purple Los Campesinos t-shirt on Sunday? If so I think I saw you.

      • Hello, yes, that was me

You should have said hello. I had my first blog reader interaction on Sunday too.

        • Yeah I know

I was with my friend Jim as well who is pretty much the biggest Sweeping The Nation fan in the world. Shame.

          • Ha!

It was a Jim who did say hello, which I can only assume was the same one.

  • good festival but not a great one

the music on the main stage was pretty terrible throughout (Winchell Riots, Bump Band to name a couple), with the exception of the masterful Okkervil River, who were the clear festival highlight. A brilliant set from them.

Also enjoyed Pivot, Ulrich Schnauss, Kyte, the Early Years.

Tent crime seemed to be worse this year. I had ONE of my £130 boots stolen from my tent and a chair. Fortunately, I found the boot a hundred yards away near the chair. But they decided to break the chair first. Which was nice.

  • me too

guess i should have looked here before posting on the social :P
    your highlight??

    • .

      YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT

      and some other stuff

      • why did cats in paris

        cancel?
we were all waiting in the tent for them for ages before the soundman let slip they weren't actually playing...
ran away to see Research be sweetly pop instead.

        • keyboard problems

          I fink.

          • Yep

Ben from Cats In Paris here - sorry everyone, Mike's (rare and irreplaceable) keyboard went haywire, we tried in vain to get it repaired but it was far too complex to be sorted in time, plus there aren't many keyboard repairers who are willing to work all night on a Saturday! We're so so gutted we missed this. Sorry if we let you down.

            • sorry

bout your keyboard. bummer. retrospectively was quite funny spose - all the people standing in the tent waiting for half an hour staring at an empty stage....quite restful really.
hope your keyboard gets mended and i gets to see you play soon.
missed you at LOTF too cos couldn't find the stage!

          • this really pissed me off

I spent the whole of Saturday telling all my friends to go see them and then waited half an hour for them not to show up. Some sort of announcement would have been nice.

Rest of the festival was amazing as always.

YACHT, Eamon, Daedelus, Okkervil River and Jonquil were probably my favourites.

Shame there was no Buck 65, ASAP or Nervous_Testpilot but it was all great anyway.

            The Nuns were perfect.

  • Right, highlights

Okkervil River. Just all of it, but especially the So Come Back I Am Waiting/John Allyn Smith Sails segue. (But not the bloke walking on stage making "'avin' it!" gestures at the sound desk during the not noticeably Fratellis-like A Girl In Port. Where the fuck did he come from?)
Johnny Foreigner, even if they could still have fit another couple in
    Camera Obscura
    Jonquil
    Daedelus
    Fighting With Wire
    Laura Marling
    Piney Gir
    Thomas Truax, obviously
Mephisto Grande, The Tom Waitsesque bloke on Sunday morning

I understand there was a lot of rain at Latitude. *snigger* *winces at sunburnt neck*

    • Lemonheads review

      please.

      • .

        BRILLIANT.

and they played style as well, which made the whole thing even better.

        • lame.

Like watching an impersonator of an impersonater of a bad Stars in their Eyes version of Dando fail to hit any note properly and thus destroying the dreams of a scattering of 30-somethings in the crowd who remembered him and the Lemonheads in a totally different way. Four words: "Hello" and three instances of "Thanks". £65 well spent if that's the band you came for.

          • .

Well, I didn't come for the Lemonheads and enjoyed them! Not as much as I enjoyed YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT YACHT

            • YACHT

              were fantastic!

i was gutted they were at Latitude on the Saturday, and JoFo at Lovebox on the Saturday too but great that both could play Truck anyway.

              • .

Really awesome. Oxford needs to see them again soon. Watching them made me wish I was watching them in the Cellar, I think that would be unsurpassable!

          • ^Agreed...

Totally perfunctory "going through the motions" performance. Biggest disappointment of the festival.

    • that dude

      was like totally EJECTED.

  • .

Though having said that whichever knobcock promoter put Rolo Tomassi and Jonquil on at the same time ought to take a good look at himself and THINK ABOUT WHAT HE'S DONE

    • Agreed

But then it was a bit silly putting Jonquil on one of the smallest stages as well. I couldn't get in to the tent at all. Rolo were pretty amazing though.

      • .

In the tent made no difference, I was half way back and couldn't see shit..though it still sounded pretty damned awesome

    • And Jonquil ran late...

...so I only saw, like, two minutes before arriving late for Tomassi and FAILING to get anywhere near the front cos it was so rammed.

      • The Market Stage is always too small

Before I abandoned all hope of seeing them there was a point where I thought Noah & The Whale was going to go the same way as Foals, such was the crush in Market before their set (although I liked the security bloke whose appeal featured "yeah?" as literally every other word) Conversely Eamon Hamilton started to a half full tent because for some reason Bob Harris turned up five minutes before his stage time and got the Coal Porters to play outside, which caused a neat diversion.

Another highlight: the dancing to the DiS set closer Atlas. There were loads of people outside the tent just watching.

    • too many clashes

      sadly.

  • what was the

"collaboration" between members of Rolo Tomassi and Youthmovies about?

It seemed like childish, idea-less improv to me. No tunes, no textures, just 20 minutes of horrible noise that couldn't be called music. The band members didn't seem to care either.

    Truly terrible.

  • Anyone know what was stolen

last night? We left after Get Cape and security were searching all of the cars for "something" which had gone missing from the backstage area. Must've been pretty serious if they were going to that sort of trouble

  • YACHT were so good

either them or Buttonhead were the best. Rolo Tomassi, This Town Needs Guns, Johnny Foreigner (despite how fucking short it was) were also all tops, and I really enjoyed These New Puritans too, perhaps despite my better judgement at times haha. Massive shame about Cats In Paris though.

  • Brilliant Truck

Had a fantastic weekend, saw some great stuff - Rolo Tomassi were very cool, The Strategy (early Sunday morning in the Barn as part of Truck Club Juniors) sounded like Biffy, Daedalus was weird and wonderful, Walter Schreifels was the perfect soundtrack to the sunset, all in all, a memorable festival. And how about that weather, folks? I had to apply aftersun when I got home!

  • good times

maps, okkervil river and riz mc were my highlights. mephisto grande and thomas truax were also good

my first non-wet festival in years

not sure if i'll go back next year though. it's fun, but there isn't any wow factor to it. 4 years is enough

    • good truck

okkervil river were definitely my highlight, the nuns were great too.

I enjoyed the lemonheads despite the lack of any banter, was really nice to hear outdoor type. what was with the meathead moshpit/pushing at the front though? slightly over the top and not good when people were getting pushed over.

the worst thing was missing loads of the good stuff last night - laura marling, thomas truax, the research, piney - to get the last train home.

  • Riz MC

Owned it. Best thing I saw by far. Was great to see Johnny Foreigner outside for the first time too.

Where the fuck had the trailer park tent gone? That was always the best stage. Even if trailer park weren't running the stage any more they could have kept the tent, surely? The one they replaced it with was tiny.

Anyway, still had great fun as usual. Anyone else see Dodgy? DOO DOO DOO DOO DO DOO DOO DOO DOO DO GOOD ENOUGH!

    • .

Yeah no Trailer Park was weird. But having said that the Beat Hive was absolutely inspired

  • it was good

but a little underwhelming perhaps. It was my first Truck and i found it a little heard to kinda work out what the atmosphere was all about - i didn't really settle into it straightaway.

    Anyway, my highlights were:
    - Frank Turner
    - Danny and the champions of the world
    - Chap from rival schools whose name i can't spell so I'm just going to call him Walter Schmeichal
    - Laura Marling sounded quite good but it was pretty quiet and i couldn't see jack shit.
    - Little Sister

Most of the other stuff i saw was a bit meh.

  • i'm sunburnt to fuck

    but truck was MINT

  • missed it

    weeping

  • All the Wonderful Things?

What was the song playing on loop on the main stage in between sets - along the lines of "All the wonderful things that I could do"? Nice voice.

  • who were the 'suprise headliners' on sunday night

    in the barn?

I only saw their last song. Rumour was that it would be the Magic Numbers...but it wasn't.

    • i didn't see them,

but i heard it was chapterhouse. is that right?

      • yep, chapterhouse

the amount of rumours i heard though...

i missed them cos i wanted to see YACHT.

magic numbers were there too, i think one of them did a solo set.

        • Yeah

Romeo did the tbc slot in Market on Sunday and played with Danny And The Champions Of The World.

Who was the 12.30 Barn Sunday guest? Sonic Cathedral suggested here that it'd be Dando again, but given the thrash guitar I heard from the vents at the back I'm guessing it wasn't.

          • I dunno....

but the tbc between the DiS DJs and Riz MC was Restlesslist who set up their equipment, seemed to be ready to start their set, and then walked off stage. As they left the tent, one of them said "you'd better put a CD on then".

Suffice to say, if they can't be bothered to start playing when they're all set up and the fans are already waiting to hear them, then I'm not going to bother to stick around to hear them. Would it have been that hard to just say "we're not due on for another 10 minutes" instead of what appeared to be them just walking out on the fans?

            • They did play

Admittedly their laptop buggered up for half the set, but they did play at 1.30.

          • Evan Dando

was supposed to do a secret solo set on the Sunday, and the low-key Lemonheads gig at the Bully in Oxford on Friday, but didn't bother with either. I heard they were only on-site for 2 hours on the Saturday! Didn't exactly get into the spirit of things

  • Anyone got a copy of the stage times online?

My friend went and didn't get a copy of the programme. He keeps badly describing these bands to me with no idea what they're called. Grrrrr.

Anyone know the name of the band who were 'quite heavy' 'not really my type of thing' and chucked a can of cider at a girl in the crowd.' 6pm Saturday in the Barn apparantly!!

  • Didn't go.

    First time in years.

  • it was good

not amazing. no trailer park was bad. the security meatheads almost spoiled it at points too, especially the guy who tried to stop the rolo tomassi mosh pit.
the line-up wasn't really amazing and the crowd seemed to have got worse/less 'truck'-like. probably won't go again.

    3 best bits:
    YACHT
    Rolo Tomassi
    Okkervil River

also good: le volume courbe, this town needs guns, buttonhead, pivot, the nuns

  • !

had an amazing time and have been going since 2004, maybe my favourite ever but perhaps more due to company than lineup! highlights:

    Deadless (beathive)
    Thugs (beathive)
    Buttonhead(s?) (barn)
    the bicycle tent on friday
    Johnny Foreigner
    loads more I've forgotten

    • the nuns....

ta to those who came and watched. we had lovely fun!
      hurray.
any londoners - nuns are playing a free show on Weds 30th July at Old Blue Last with Betty & The Werewolves if you fancy it - we on about quartet past eight i believe!
i believe this is a 'jag' tho i'm still not quite sure what that is...
      myspace.com/itsnuntime

  • Just got back

And I had to fly back to Jersey. Where the hell are you people!?

I had a great time. I'd agree that maybe the lineup wasn't great, and all the 'star attractions' weren't that stellar (Okkervill River, Lemonheads, and Camera Obscura, for example, were only 'ok' in my eyes).

Did anyone else see The Youngs Plan in the Barn on sunday morning? I had this vision of the 'Truck Club Junior' being a few local underage bands with too many guitarists playing rubbish covers. But of course I was wrong, and actually they all impressed me a lot - The Youngs Plan were particularly great, probably one of the better bands that weekend.

Tom Truax is a genius. Fonda 500 are brill. Maps were awesome.

I'm gonna go to bed now. Sleepy sleepy bye bye!

    • I hurt...

and my face is ridiculous - sun burnt much? Rather. I look like a clown! (a sleepy, dead one..)

Shots up soon but highlights definitely Buttonhead, Lovvers, Rolo Tomassi, Youthmovies, Johnny Foreigner, Pivot, The early years (even if it was just for a little bit), DIVER'S DJ SET!! (AWESOMES!) - those are the ones that immediately come to mind..

Would have loved loved loved to have seen Chapterhouse but didn't hear they were playing til their last song :'(

  • i quite enjoyed it.

i really enjoyed seeing Buttonhead, Okkervil River, Walter Schrifels and Johnny Foreigner.
although, i only drank tea for the whole thing and felt slightly emo on both nights. hmm.

    • This is wrong

      it was really good.

      • tea's very underrated

i was rocking out with the tea a lot on sunday!

        • i was sipping mine.

i see now where i went wrong.
my festival low point was probably walking into the DiS finale with doughnuts and calculating how fast i should be eating them to get through Atlas and look preoccupied, because i was feeling too shy to unleash the bedroom dancing.

  • i had a really good time

    GOOD THINGS:
Okkervil River. It was so wonderful to see them play against a beautiful sunset. And they did So Come Back I Am Waiting!!

JoFo. FINALLY got to see them. I don't think I've ever been this excited about a British band before. They make me feel like nothing else, I swear my heart was pounding through my chest for their entire set <3

The Lemonheads were completely euphoric, everything a festival headline set should be.

Other good musical stuff - Fighting With Wire, Frank Turner, This Town Needs Guns, etc.

    That awesome Truck atmosphere

    It didn't rain!

    LESS GOOD THINGS:

    Twit on stage during Okkervil
Went to bed too early both nights
Camera Obscura were really disappointing, obviously there were other crap bands but I expected them to be better for some reason
I miss the Trailer Park tent
Not quite as incredible as Truck 2006, but that'd be asking too much

    • 1st time truck

      was ace for me
was painful leaving jonquil for rolo tomassi, quite a few clashes
okkervil river were amazing as was laura marling
research and lets wrestle had some great banter going

i spent alot of my time battling with broken zips on my tent by sunday ended poking holes with scissors and tying my 'porch' up, last time ever this time for tesco tents

  • really can't remember who

    I met....

    • i met you TWICE (sort of)

I say 'sort of' because the first time I was on my way somewhere and had to catch up with my friends, and the second time you came and talked to me was when all i was capable of was lying on the floor - i think that was during Walter Shriefels.

  • Really enjoyed it

My second Truck and I had a great time. Looked forward to a handful of things before going - Youthmovies, Johnny Foreigner, Frank Turner - and they all lived up to my expectations. Surprise awesomeness for me would be Pivot (Aussie Battles-esque three-piece) and YACHT, who I expected to be good but was just blown away at the end of the night.

  • "Truck"

    hahah "Truck". Lal

  • I had a marvelous weekend

Youthmovies, Laura Marling, JoFo, Okkervil River, So so Modern were all highlights!
Best truck I've been to, I didn't see any of the security problems...
I didn't know Cats in Paris was canceled, I thought I'd missed them, was gutted!
So glad I won tickets :D

    • what was it, being specific

that was disappointing about camera obscura? thought they were great.
don't know what all the fuss is about yacht, either. yeah, they're good fun, but there was more dancing for other acts in the beat hive.

      • youth movies rolo tomassi

actually could someone help me out a bit i'm naming my pictures from the barn i've got rolo tomassi, then the special collaboration, was it only various members of rolo tomassi with various members of youthmovies, then into youth movies? i'm pretty sure i did'nt shoot past the collaboration due to confusion causing photographers to be ejected after one youthmovies song proper

        • Ooo I'm pretty sure

it was Rolo Tomassi then on come Youthmovies' Andrew then Al and then the rest (no other musician lovelies inbetween) - did i get the question right? I'm crap at understanding things!

I'm putting my shots on flickr tonight most probs and that might help with any names ish? :)

          • Yep

That's pretty much what happened, yeah. Less a collaboration and more an interesting 15 minute soundcheck as they switched in band members and instruments without people audibly noticing.

            • hmmm

okay thanks that does clear it up, will be a while till i get mine up got to do the review too yet, i'll look out for your pics

            • Yep

it was just a kind of extended handover, it would have been better if they hadn't actually billed it though!

  • YAY FOR TRUCK!

yay in particular for So So Modern, Rolo Tomassi, Youthmovies, Ulrich Strauss and ofcourse Munch Munch whose cup of free orange juice from backstage makes up for my lack of guestlist pass.

    • ye

it was good, Youthmovies, Daedelus and Rolo tommassi in perticular though it would have been better if Deadelus hadn't been on in the mid afternoon. Yacht was good on sunday though Saturday was much better. Quite a few shit bands though.

  • was sososososo good

daedelus was probably my highlight, though general hate towards public increased when a randomer chucked beer over his obviously expensive equipment.

walked past the dis dj set to mike going into a song with the lyrics "sexual eruption" (don't know it) and the ENTIRE tent clearing. :D

generally awesome festival. my face LIT UP when i saw let's wrestle were added; and they were brilliant.

  • i wish

it was Truck again this weekend!

    i miss Truck!
