personally, sigur ros.. were amazing, i've seen them before but they were amazingly better! awesome..

white lies, the beep seals, joy formidable.. all awesome! and i saw franz, i don't really like them, but they were great!

and.. i was unimpressed by death cab, even though i love them!

Micah P. Hinson

Was the biggest let down for me but that could of been because he was in the Uncut Arena. I fell in love with The Bookhouse Boys

I got converted

into a Joanna Newsom fan, having gone to watch her out of morbid curiosity to begin with. Sigur Ros were definitely my band of the weekend, but honorable mentions must also go to Johnny Foreigner, Wave Machines, The Beep Seals, Okkervil River, Patrick Watson, The Wave Pictures, Seasick Steve, Interpol, Nada Surf, The Twilight Sad and James Yuill (who went all SMD/Justice).

White Lies were by far the worst thing i saw or heard. A very poor mans Interpol with dogshit lyrics.

ended up taking label

job to extreme by filling in on bass for Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences............. Was excellent fun......... Now dying at my desk.......

james yuill

im a big fan...how did he go all smd/justice?

What?!

Noooo! Yuill is cool. He should keep it in the folktronica camp and no mistake.

No need to worry

The folky elements were intact, just bolstered by a better sound system than I've heard him have before and a more dancey edge to suit a festival crowd. Really good stuff. He was one of my highlights...

yeah, i thought this

he was much louder and harder than I expected, and brilliant for it.

........

Having seen around 300-400 performances in the past 2-3 years, I can safely say that Sigur Ros's show on Saturday was easily the best I've seen. I'd seen then twice before, and they're always great, but at Latitude they were something else.

I was actually surprised by Elbow, never got into them before, but they really pulled it out of the bag.

Elbow were ok,

but they are normally a hell of a lot better than they were at Latitude.

^^

in that case i'd love to see them when they're on form!

i'd never seen them before, and been a little put off by some reviews of them on main festival stages in the past - so maybe it was more that they exceeded expectations. but i thought they were really good, Guy's voice surprised me at how strong it was live and I thought the audience got really into it.

all i can say

is i saw Sigur Ros at rock werchter in belgium a couple of weeks ago and they were just about the most boring band on the whole bill -they were second on the bill to radiohead that night but didnt deserve taht slot at all ! . They nearly sent everybody to sleep and most of my friends there wern't impressed either !I like their music but its far too laid back for a festival but it should be reserved for somewhere like albert hall where it can be properly appreciated !!! Sorry

Sigur Ros = BEST THING EVER.

Seriously. When it had finished I sort of wandered round the Obelisk Arena in a haze of how epic it was! I spent most of the set in near tears.

YACHT in the Sunrise Arena, Saturday was flipping great as well. So so good live. Best new band I saw was Golden Silvers. I'd heard of them before but not listened to them much and they were really good. Best run of the weekend = Early Edition, Golden Silvers, Truckers of Husk and YACHT all following each other. Rich Hall was really funny as well.

Also, did anyone see Robin Ince's Book Club at all?

Ross Noble on thursday night was class.

Book Clubs

Who knew Dutch Dwarves would be so interseting and spawn a half hour rant and a vegan helckle?

i saw the sunday night one

where he read about the God-botherer who fell in love with her gynocologist. brilliant stuff.

saw this

a few times throughout the festival.

ross noble turned up at about midnight on sunday night also, and both him and robin ince did impressions of john peel, and then of morrissey writing songs whilst stuck in a whale.

then a man in a tutu got fully naked.

These New Puritans

disappointed me. I think they were a bit swamped by the enormous stage and playing in the daytime, because I've heard good things about them before.

Sigur Ros were magical.
Johnny Foreigner were great.
Russell Howard made me cry with laughter.
George Pringle and Emmy the Great were good and very attractive.
Black Lips were great fun.

Oh and the Early Edition

on saturday morning was great.

Anyone see dEUS or Julian Cope?

If so, any good? I hear generally rubbish things about Copey live, even from hardcore Copeheads.

Tindersticks

=an awesome way to end the festival, a surprising amount of beautiful girls near the front too (well, more than one)

Was anyone at Guillemots/Eraserhead.

That was pure mindfuck.

awesome, a bit

guillemots made david lynch even weirder.

INTERPOL SET `

plz

...

Did anyone go and see aPAtT?

You almsott certainly missed out if you didnt!

I did!

I was actually waiting for Jonquil and had no idea what to expect, but they were pretty awesome.. and totally crazy, can you recommend any songs/ albums of theres?
Best bands of the weekend for me were Sigur Ros, Grinderman, Twilight Sad, Okkervil River and Joanna Newsom (who had a great crowd by the way, I was really worried that people were gonna chat all the way through but there was near silence throughout the set).
Also worth mentioning were Broken Records, YACHT, Wild Beasts, Noah and the Whale, Franz Ferdinand, Elbow.. the list goes on.

No one has mentioned

the shortwave set in the sunrise arena, who were great. Did anyone else see the arctic monkeys in the uncut tent during the coral?

Don't know when I'll see anything as good as Sigur Ros's set again though

The Shortwave Set were pretty great.

I liked their Devo-esque costumes.

Yeah Shortwave Set

were very good! I seen Arctic Monkeys walking round a couple of times! Only went for the Sunday really wish I had have gone for the whole weekend!

SIGUR ROS!!!

OMFG! Fourth time I've seen them, better than ever! Joanna Newsom was magnificent too.

sigur ros were great

death cab for cutie were good but i was expecting more from them but i saw they had few technical problems.
these new puritans are usually amazing live but i don't think that was the right time for them and was the first time they played a big stage.

The best thing about Death Cab

was watching the singer constantly in pain from his ear things being too loud.

Newsom

James Yuill, Sigur Ros.
Elbow were great too, despite not being a massive fan. The zombie attack was pretty cool too.

Sigur Ros

Probably the best thing I've ever seen live.

Nothing else came close, but Errors were stunning and Blondie was a bucket of fun.

kabeedies

did anybody see them on the lake stage, was a bit mental for a middle of the day set! packed quite far back and it was raining..

i heard they had to get more staff in and bolster up the barriers post there set. hahaha nice

x

My personal faves were

Sigur Ros (duh), Kyte, Jonquil, Sam Isaac, JoFo, the first three minutes of The Mars Volta's set before they went into some prog guitar wankathon, and the singer from Those Dancing Days' face. In the words of Andrew WK, "she is beautiful."

All round I had a lovely weekend. Probably my favourite festival time ever.

STYROFOAMBOOTS:

www.myspace.com/apatt

Both their albums are great, so take your pick.

Did anyone stay and watch the whole of Mars Volta? Just wondering if they still play any of their good tunes

cheers

Interpol confirmed my love for them

and were far better than I'd ever seen them before.

Mars Volta and Okkervil River were mindblowing, I wasn't expecting a lot from either but was absolutely engrossed in both their sets.

Truckers of Husk were a great find, I also really enjoyed seeing Seasick Steve, Anya Marina and James Yuill for the first time.

I only felt let down by Polly Scattergood and slightly deflated by British Sea Power, Guillemots and Martha Wainwright. overall a brilliant festival, so many good and a few great moments.

Tindersticks were a little dissapointing

their set was too short I thought.

Grinderman are the best live band ever.

Sigur Ros...

left me speechless for half an hour afterwards, stunning.

Surprised by how much I liked Franz Ferdinand, JoFo were super.

Won over by Soko, so riduculously quirky but can't help not loving her.

Death Cab slightly underwhelmed by, Ross Noble far too funny. SAUSAGE ROLL!!!

Ross Noble was legendary

The Red Bull, bohemian raphsody, the conga to the pie stand... so entertaining. Sigur Ros made me weep like baby, Franz were good as youd expect but new stuff was disappointing, Interpol, Black Lips, elbow, Newsom, golden silvers, The Now Show - all awesome.

I think I liked

there new stuff qiute abit, seemed very electro-eee. I had a lot of pimms inside of me which may have harmed my judgement and made me all dancey.

*THEIR new stuff.

GRAMMAR FAIL.

Grinderman probably are the best live band ever.

They were absolutely fucking incredible. Elbow weren't too far behind.

Sigur Ros and Joanna Newsom were both very very good indeed.

End of review.

Grinderman

were great, as were Black Lips (the bit I saw...) Soko, Sebastian Tellier, Lovvers (amazing,) The Exploits of Elaine film soundtracking thing, Patrick Watson and a lot of other stuff, Robin Ince's book club was fun! Sigur Ros were boring, but its not my bag.

Caught Robin Ince last night,

was very funny, sketches were great, shame I didn't stumble across it earlier.

Everything was

fantastic. Sigur ros = EPIC, Blondie were fab, Foals, despite the hate they get on here were mightily impressive. Interpol were good, although the set was incredibly similar to ally pally in november.

Ross Noble and Russell Howard were really funny, the conga from the comedy tent was probably my non-musical highlight.

Death Cab were slightly meh and These New Puritans were really poor, i gave them 4 songs but had to leave. Okkervil River were my biggest surprise, never really got into them on record but live they were class. Shame Tellier's set got cut short.

"conga"

id say stampede.

Glasvegas was very disappointing

Black lips, Okkervil river, foals and beggars were brilliant.

What Newsom album is best as an introduction?

as before yesterday I wasn't a fan but she was beautiful in every way.

My other praises go to:
Godwits as the first band of the Friday as they were really very impressive and benefited from the unflappably brilliant sound on the Sunrise Stage. Broken Records, Slow Club, Soko and Lykke Li were all great there too.

Micah P Hinson and Death Cab were my only real let downs but not terrible.

the milk eyed mender..

is her first and most accessible and is really lovely. once you're into that take the plunge with ys.

Yeah, was quite impressed by fields.

Wish I had seen whit lies.

BSP were good, although, why no material form the 2nd album!!!!!!

Only one from the first too...

No Remember Me!!! :(

They were still good though...

ross noble...

whilst queueing for the buses home- motorcyclist comes skidding past, motorcycle following. picks up bike, drives off with bits falling off bottom of bike. gets 300m down the road where he gives up and phones someone to sort him out.
too many shandies?

guntrip went

and he like totally fell in love with someone who is "like the cutest thing ever". i know this because he texted me just to tell me this.

Seasick Steve!!!

Forgot to mention him earlier; he was tremendously entertaining!
