Hope Of The States say new album's "Joy Division goes disco"

sam hope of the states

Hope Of The States have spoken to BBC 6Music exclusively (read their website for the original story) about their forthcoming second album.

Singer Sam Herlihy has told the digital music station that the follow up to 2004's The Lost Riots is like "Joy Division goes disco". Scared, us?

The new album has been given a title, Left, and will be in shops in May, preceded by a single, 'Blood Meridian' in a few weeks. Herlihy added:

"(The new album) doesn't really sound anything like the first record. There's a lot more songs as opposed to big, sort of, noise things. We just got a bit bored doing that, really... So it's a bit more concise than the first record. It's a bit more guitary."

  • "it's a bit more guitary"

    ...and a bit less singy?
    Please?

The big noise things were the best things on the first one. Boo.

    • Hmm...

I love the "big, sort of, noise things". Oh well, HOTS are a great band and I'm really looking forward to hearing this new stuff.

Question though, doesn't Joy Division goes disco = New Order?

      • hooray!

I'm actually quite excited by this.

      • or like

        Editors or someone?

        • this is not a disease

this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease this is not a disease

          • that's nice

            and your mum?

            • My mum doesn't have VD

You failed at transferring it :-(

              • i thought it was

                "you don't need this disease".

not that i'm especially fond of editors or anything. i might be wrong.

                • is that that one

                  with the funny looking acrobat?

                  • pass

in other news, woo, new hope of the states. lets hope for more instrumental passages.

                    • boo indeed

i am slightly apprehensive of this too. The big noise thingies were great. Oh well.

                    • The first song

was the only good song on the first record. Maybe that's a bot harsh, but was by far the best.

      • Long overdue

Why aren't this lot bloomin' massive?

        • I love them

Seriously, lost riots is top five album material. super record

        • oy Division goes disco = New Order?

damn you. You totally stole my line.

          • Oy Division?

for god's sakes people, please get us an 'edit comment' option so we don't all look like asses with our typos.

        • because their vocalist

          is appalling.

          • i would have

to turn them off if they were on TV/radio because of his voice

          • Personally

I don't think his voice is that bad. It's not good or anything but it's got a certain charm to it. especially when he goes all snarly.

            • vocals on the new album

are much better. still characteristic, but warmer and more developed. and don't worry, there's still plenty of noisy instrumental parts, they've just got some kind of more structered songs in there too. it's ace.
