The Coral: Pass It On
by Tom EdwardsProving once and for all that ‘Dreaming Of You’ wasn’t simply a fluke, The Coral return with this, the second single from their forthcoming 'Magic And Medicine'** album. And what a single it is: understated, with intertwining melodies and guitar hooks in all the right places and sparing with time at just over two minutes.
‘Pass It On’ is everything that The Coral should aspire to be. They’ve made the heady transition from twee-rock misfits to not-too-distant cousins of The La’s without even breaking a sweat. Their giddy referencing of a dozen musical styles now seems entirely cohesive instead of overwhelming.
Like it or not, James Skelly and his ensemble are destined to be gracing the annals of rock history. Dodgy haircuts aside, it appears that nothing but the corrosive support of Noel Gallagher can stop them now.
