The Secret's Out - Nottingham Welcomes Stealth

Having just opened its doors to Cabaret and with the Rescue Rooms having just celebrated its first birthday, April 30th will see yet another new venue open its doors as Nottingham continues its ascent in club and gigland as the London of the Midlands.

Stealth is the brainchild of James Baillie (The Bomb, The Social) and George and Sean Akins (Rock City), its mission statement simply being "to prove to the doubters that there's plenty of life left in dance music."

Whilst the emphasis may be on dance music, the 680-capacity venue will see the introduction of a weekly NME night (every Thursday), where resident DJs Queens Of Noize, Punish The Atom's Joey Bell and the Home Taping Is Killing Music DJs will man the decks alongside performances from some of the hottest signed and unsigned live bands around.

Fridays will see Stealth host such renowned club nights as Detonate, Spectrum and Manuva Manuva, while Saturday nights will be served by the self-titled Stealth night alongside such established clubs as Bugged Out and Tyrant.

Overheard a conversation between two of the builders who have been doing the refit, yesterday:

Builder 1: "We should just get this finished in time for the opening night".

Builder 2: "Theres not a fucking chance of it being finished by August."

    Ah well.

As the article hasn't told us where it is, i will. It's in Masonic Place, right next door to the Rescue Rooms.

It's looking quite good to be fair. Good dibs to Rock City and all that lot, Notts's only had Rescue Rooms just over a year. Mr Scruff at Stealth will be REALLY worth seeing. Seachange and co are launching some kind of real improvement in the musical stature of Nottingham. I reckon there's a real scene developing here. Or if not developing, then the foundations are being laid. Give it 2-3 years, Nottingham could be like Leeds/Wakefield are at the moment. Who knows? Here's hoping.... (+i'm drunk)

oh, and by the way....the NME night is obviously to seal all the thursday crowd, what with Rock City having it's (Bo-selecta ripping off) student night on the same night. Oh well, it's only a Thursday. And a pleasant decision to make. (p.s. still drunk. i shouldn't be let near a computer after 7 pints)

'tis better than letting seven pints near a computer. Motherboards and lager don't mix well.

What a total swine, the minute I leave uni smack bang opposite, and where I lived just a 10 minute walk down the Alfreton Road, they open all these cool venues.
Life as a reporter on the North Shropshire Chronicle just ain't as rock and roll (although I have done a story where Cannon and Ball, Chas and Dave and Joe Pasquale might be coming to a small town hall on my patch - now that's pure punk rock).
