Buckley bio-pic planned

jeff buckley

No, not about Keith Buckley, tattooed singer of popular post-hardcore types Every Time I Die, but some dead dude that only recorded a single album. Like, whatever...

Jeff Buckley (pictured) is set to be the 'star' of a forthcoming bio-pic, accoring to Hollywood Reporter.

The late singer - whose only studio album Grace remains an overly acclaimed 'classic' - drowned in 1997. The film is to be produced by Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, who apparently feared that another party would make a similar film without her consent.

She said:

"The time was right to have a project where integrity could be built into the script and that we could wrangle it so that it didn't get co-opted or changed in getting to the screen."

Personally, I'm more interested in the previously reported Missy Elliot bio-pic, especially after seeing her crib on, erm, Cribs... HER BED'S A CAR FFS!

  • ...

    a grave spins

  • it was inevtivable

  • integrity???

I surpose releasing a double album of demos against the rest of his bands wishes had intergity?

  • surely the headline HAD to be

    Drowned in Sound?

    • Dunno about the rest of the film

but it's going to have a rubbish ending.

      • it

        will surely be "draining"

        • here's the script:

I made one critically acclaimed album
          My dad was famous
          I drowned*

I mean Tim buckly but jeff Buckley hardly merits a BBC3 60second news round up in terms of a biopic

Tragic and a waste of life nonetheless before I get my second bollocking of the day.

    • Yeah

I mean seriously, Jeff Buckley's "Grace" isn't tooo bad, but he certainly isn't worth the acclaim

you've lost any respect I had for this place with this article.

        • why?

Because I've stated that Grace really isn't all that?

          It's not.
It has a couple of great songs.
A few average arrangements that are carried by Buckley's admittedly brilliant voice.
          A couple of covers.
          A few stinkers.

It's far from the Q-approved classic the 5-albums-a-year brigade seem to think it is.

          • meh

Grace is fucking brilliant, but one album and a few musical 'sketches' are insufficient evidence from which to proclaim "musical genius". didn't he date Liz Fraser once? (yes, this is heat magazine)

            • Hmmm..

Buckley's beliefs are being sorely beaten here. He didn't know his father, hated "rock star" cliche and the music industry in general.
Kinda knew this would happen though. He is a poster boy for "alternative" music.

              • !

I don't understand the brilliance of Grace neither, it's ok, nothing else.

                • he did inspire...

Thom Yorke, Matt Bellamy and a number of other ball squeezers though.

                • jeff buckley's mum;

raping her son's legacy for a few bob?

                  • Tom Cruise

                    to play Buckley!

                    • Team_cooper this is the quote of the day ^^

                      brillo

                    • GRACE was, is, and always shall be an amazingly wonderful album

and I disagree with Mike's comments that it is overly acclaimed... for the record. It is just so......... timelessly beautiful - and for a first complete album - jesus, imagine if the man had lived longer!!!

It was inevitable a film would be made - hope they do him justice - and yes, a grave is spinning somewhere...

                      • and he can be saved

                        by an intergalactic walrus!

                      • nah,

i think it should be ice cube.

                        • I agree

It's easy to forget that Grace was his first stab at making an album. And as far as stabs go, that was a pretty amazing stab

                          Stab

                        • A bit harsh......

Raping his sons legacy. I'm sure she'd give all back to have Tim and Jeff around. I'm sure the money will help her get over it but she's seen a bit of death and done a bit of grieving in her time.

Jeff Buckley was fucking amazing. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of Grace but their is no denying JB had a voice that comes as close as any voice does to being perfect.

                          • True story

A project feauturing the talents of Mr Buckley that was released after his death had a launch party.

Miss Guibert showed up unannounced, and freaked everyone out by doing so. Apparently she is one *scary* lady.

                            (Abandon reply)

                          • i think it should be winona ryder

                            • damn this posting system

that plays Jeff I mean. I'd love to see her with mild stubble.

                          • I think the acclaim for Grace

is based, at least partly, on the fact that it shows tantalising glimpses of an incredible talent.
It covers various styles of music, and showcases Jeff's magnificent voice wonderfully.
It's up there in my top 5, definitely.

And "Sketches..." showed further glimpes, demos or not, that Grace wasn't a fluke. Personally, I feel that "My Sweetheart The Drunk", had it been completed, would have bettered Grace. It seemed more focussed.

I would suggest that any fans read 'Dream Brother' as well. A thoroughly enjoyable read, that gives a good insight into Jeff's life.

                            • Personally

I think the first disc of sketches is the best thing he releases, and one of the best in the 90s, could have been a human counterpart to OK Comp.

                              • This has got

                                Ben Affleck's name on it.

                                No?

                                • Anyone that fails to

appreciate Jeff Buckley's voice, talent and influence might as well be deaf.
I'm suspicious of all of these trendy kids and Buckley skeptics that pretend to like bands like Godspeed and make out that they know what artistic integrity is in the vain hope it'll get them laid. They wouldn't know music with soul if it smacked them in the kisser.

Shame the guy died and let him rest in peace.

                                  • I reckon

                                    Van Nistolroy to play buckley.

                                  • ai

used to be obsessed with the bloke circa age 16-19, but dont find myself listening to him much in the last 3-4 yrs, a few too many octaves, and hyped in a tasteless way through no fault of his own.

but defo a good talent. As I said beofre, reckon Sketches owns grace

defo looks like a certain holland striker though

                                  • bio-pic or rockumentary?

i saw an amazingly disappointing documentary about this lad at a film festival last year. All i'm saying is that i hope this film doesn't have about 30 minutes of sebastian bach in it.

                                  • You speaketh

                                    the truth.

                                • Scaping the barrel

Tim had a much more interesting life than Jeff but Jeff gets more press coverage.

Is this all down to holds the estate?

All fans of Jeff should go download a copy of Greetings from LA..... Move with Me

                                  • I was waiting

for someone to blame a woman for this. You know, I bet she held his head under the water, while dancing around in a boat with Yoko Ono and Courtney Love.

                                  • Is it true

that his Mum kept every single one of his dirty nappies, unwashed garments, broken guitar strings, wankrags, toenails and teeth and plans to flog them on E-bay when she runs out of ideas and has nothing left to sell?

                                • buckley is genious

                                  you bunch of assholes,
                                  grace is brilliant,
                                  BUCKLEY is BRILLIANT,
                                  so fuck you all,

and the slams against his mother, his death, are pretty fucking inapropriate,
                                  and crude.

its like people sayin elliot smith was emo and deserved what happened to him

                                  bloody grow up,

                                  BUCKLEY IS GENIOUS.

i dont see any of you being genious or creating anything brilliant, he had all the talent, and your the ones sitting on a computer being assholes for no reason,
                                  nice...

                                • p/s
