Reykjavik sounds so glamourous, like it's full of beautiful people and romantic smokey horizons but for one weekend a year it's transformed into a rock palace... Iceland Airwaves 2004 announces line-up!

In Reykjavik, Iceland 20-24 October 2004, the world's most northernly music festival Iceland Airwaves 2004 takes place for the sixth year. You may have heard about it because of the legendary candle-lit church performance by Sigur Ros and the original appearance by Gus Gus in an old aerodrome. The festival's even sponsorsed by Icelandair (that beats lager anyday!).

The festival features 'happening' international acts as well as established and up and coming Icelandic acts. Confirmed so far are Keane, Radio 4, The Stills, Kid Koala, Magnet, The Shins representing the rest of the world.

The Icelandic bands confirmed include: Brain Police, Ghostigital, Eivör Pálsdóttir, Jagúar, Maus, Dikta, Skytturnar, Botnleðja, Singapore Sling, Trabant, Tenderfoot, Vinyl, Manhattan, O.N.E, Nilfisk, Lára, Mugison, Hudson Wayne, Úlpa, Kimono, Mínus, Leaves, Jan Mayen, Solid I.V., Ensími, Ske og 200.000 Naglbítar.

More acts are to be confirmed within the next few weeks. DiS will hopefully be out in Iceland for the event bringing you news and reviews as it happens (or at least after we've had a spa and drank our hangovers away...).

Icelandair Holidays offer special packages including flights, accommodation and Airwaves Festival Pass. See icelandair.co.uk for further details and to book on-line.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Silt and Botnleðja are one and the same, so fear not :)

Cheerio,

I'm off to Benicassim but have always wanted to go to Iceland.....this looks like the perfect excuse!!!

Re: Iceland Airwaves: Announces Mínus, Keane, Radio4, Stills, Shins, Magnet...

lucky b'stard, Benicassim looks ace this year. Brian Wilson, Lou Reed, Kraftwerk, Chemical Bros, Wire & Yann Tiersen make the best lineup of any festival this year apart from Sonar maybe. Make sure you see Patrick Wolf and Richie Hawtin, and Ellen Allien (in fact the whole Bpitch nite should be awesome) too... i went to benicassim in 2002 when radiohead played it was a brilliant weekend, but you need decent drugs to keep going til 5am every nite. The only downside to the thing is having to sleep on frickin' rocks every night. Pitching your tent into the bastards is no walk in the park either

I've never heard anything by Patrick Wolf to be honest. I'm gonna try and check the bands out that I haven't heard before I go. I've heard that stuff at the festival is pretty cheap. The camping sounds like a right sod. I know I should have paid attention at Cubs instead of trying to impress the lads with my breakdancing moves!

Is it safe at the festival or were ther any robberies when you were there?

It would be cool if a few bands like The Bees and SFA were added to the bill now, that would make it!

I didn't see any robberies last year and I did see plenty of knackers/ new age crustations but the folks at the camp site entrance manage to filter out the undesired debris. Furries probably won't be there as they were there last year and it's generally understood that if you play one year you won't play the next. although, they were standing in for flaming lips or someone else that pulled.
Forget sleeping in your tent after you wake, regardless of what time it is. YOU WILL DIE. I spent about an hour and a half trying to pitch 2 tents with my sister at 00.30 on the friday and had to walk away until a stiff drink was supplied. Whiskey measures are massive if u get the right barman.

Nah, i didn't really see any robberies/muggings/toilet burning... i've been to a few european festivals now and in my opinion the atmosphere is way friendlier than at most english ones. I did notice that the place was teeming with Germans, who were all very charming. And i met a really beautiful girl from Brighton just before Radiohead (or maybe Muse) called Kirsten i think, if she happens to be reading this, get in touch! **clutches straw tightly**
Patrick Wolf's album was one of the best of last year i reckon, like a young pastoral english Bjork. He can be a complete mess live though, but in a thoroughly charming way.

Ahh, it sounds excellent! Looking forward to it now! All I have to do now is book Iceland and it makes doing a sh1t job worthwhile!
