Catchers
Catchers began as a four piece band in Portstewart, a small town in Northern Ireland. This was where Dale Grundle wrote the debut album, 'Mute'.
They signed to Setanta in 1994 and moved to London. They released 'Cotton Dress' as their first single and it became single of the week in Melody Maker. This was followed with the 'Shifting' single. Both singles were re-released on cd as 'Shifting ep'.
The album, 'Mute', was recorded with Mike Hedges at Chateau de la Rouge Motte in France.
The band then signed to the Discovery label in USA. This was run by Jac Holzman, who signed both the Doors and Love in the sixties. Catchers were the first European signing to his new label. The band moved temporarily to New York and promoted 'Mute' from coast to coast.
After returning to London, Catchers became a five piece with the addition of an extra guitarist. This line up recorded their second album, 'Stooping To Fit'.
'Stooping To Fit' was recorded at the Cocteau Twins' studio, September Sound, and features string and brass arrangements by Robert Kirby (Nick Drake - "Five Leaves Left", "Bryter Layter",etc.).
