Formed around an anarcho-punk fan of the Velvet Underground, a Kraftwerk-devotee and an aspiring guitar hero, Taxi Girl should have been french answer to the Cure or Joy Division. When at this time french bands had enormous difficulties to get themselves known and signed, things moved very fast for them. First EP ‘Man'kin' and mega hit single ‘cherchez le garçon ( 1980 ) gave them the possibilty to have their own imprint to release their first album Seppuku.

Seppuku ( 1981 ) was to be their masterpiece and their downfall. Produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel from the Stranglers with whom their toured the UK, it was so desperate and devoid of any potential single that it attained a cult status but failed commercially.

With the death of drummer Pierre Wolfhson and the failure of mini-album Quelqu'un comme toi, the band slowly disintegrated. Darc and Mirwais had a last stand with a few pop singles Paris and aussi belle qu'une balle ( Virgin 1986 ) but finally split the band, pursuing solo careers.

The 1990s have seen the re-issues of their releases, a compilation of their Virgin singles ( 1984-1986 ) and a short live album ( Quelque part dans Paris ).
