So as I've already mentioned in previous posts I'm moving to Reading in one month for a six months work assignment. These last weeks I have heard terrifying rumours from colleagues that a train ticket from Reading to the center of london will set me back 20 Pounds. If true, this will surely have a huge impact on my gig-going... So...Is it true? what are my best (= cheapest and less time consuming) options ?

the train is quick
but, expensive.
and, who cares about getting into paddington!!??
26quid-ish from brighton with a travel card, takes about 50minutes. that works out at around 50p a minute. that hurts
Ride a bike
you lazy whippersnapper
i am not riding my bmx
up to london. just, no.
You can get a young persons railcard
which knocks 30% off the price- I remember it being about £14 off peak with a railcard. I can't remember how much a railcard is nowadays though!
Train is by far the easiest way to get into London- plus the trains back are alright.
There's not many gigs in Reading, but keep an eye out for stuff advertised on here.
Where are you living in REading?
gonna be living in
the center, Fobney Street, near the Oracle shopping and leasure center (according to google maps).
Spending money
on getting out of Reading for no matter how small a period of time is a good investment indeed.
If you are under 26, get a Young Person's Railcard. 2 or 3 trips and it'll pay for itself.
I think it's quite nice down that bit!
Not sure if Oracle is a leisure centre though? Unless it's changed recently.
it has a cinema!
thats leisurey, innit.
It's a shopping centre
catering for Berkshire housewives.
It's not for the likes of the Reading scum - Apart from the MacDonald's by the riverside of course.
But the Broadsteet mall is where the working class people belong. They should know their place.
I like the way Reading has two malls
for different classes. Interestingly the Games Workshop used to be in the working class mall..
I'm still confused as to the purpose of the Broad St mall food court- it was only open for about a year.
