I forgot how horrible it is to actually care about a race result. This is the first time Nick's had a decent qualifying performance (especially in relation to Kubica) in forever. Usually rain would be beneficial, but with a decent grid position and one person in front of him almost certainly on a very low fuel load, a dry race would probably work better. He does tend to do pretty well in the wet though, I remember the European GP when he was with Williams, and he was probably the only driver in the race who didn't make a mistake. And Kubica should still be on a similar fuel level seeing as how he can't change it, so Nick -really- needs to get a decent result here. A solid top 5 would be okay.
But he's been pretty strong through testing, so it was still a great job from him, but he'll almost certainly drop back quickly. Vettel again was good during testing, I think he could get a decent finish today, so long as he can avoid putting it in a wall. Kubica had a problem in qualifying, not sure if it was a driver error or technical problem, but he didn't set a competitive lap time.
that i have less of a clue about todays race than any in the past 10 years. not that i dont enjoy watching, i just seem to be forgetting the drivers/teams/etc
Mostly now it's just talking to celebrities who have something to promote, and say impossibly stupid things to try and sound like they have a clue. He seems to do that less now, but drivers are also more reluctant to talk now...
Massa looked like he'd forgotten which way round the track he was supposed to go, Heidfeld was apparently bored of passing only one car at a time, Barichello doing the F1 version of "the football league is upside-down" and Hamilton trying to have the most boring race of anyone and probably managing it.
No real reason, I just saw him in F3000 (the year he won the championship there) and he seemed like a great driver and an awesome person. Then he got the Prost racing seat after winning that and it instantly developed into a complete obsession. And I love it.
I really respect him as a person. When teammates, he beat Raikkonen, beat Massa, beat Webber etc, but was pretty much always overlooked and put down by all sorts of people, he's been ripped in to and savaged, even when driving really well. After having had brilliant seasons with Sauber, he even went to Jordan - got no wages, had to pay his hotel rooms and flights. And now he has the chance he's always deserved. and he's the nicest guy in the pitlane. And has a brilliant sense of humour -- he's got some fantastic quotes to his name.
I remember those days too, some good races were seen. 1998 was the best season for me, Montoya, Heidfeld and Rodriguez (sadface)...2000 was good too, with Alonso winning a couple.
WHA?! HUH!?!
you're so wacky!!!
This is the race thread then?

mark webber ftw
actually, i was out so i missed qualifying/most of the race build-up
why the hell does the front of the grid (first four rows) look so...unusual. vettel? two renaults? webber? only 1 bmw and only 1 ferrari? help pls
yeah, there should be another question mark in there, too
Webber will be light on fuel
But he's been pretty strong through testing, so it was still a great job from him, but he'll almost certainly drop back quickly. ta
And Massa wasn't let out of the pit in time
to set his competitive qualifying lap.
Renault are generally okay in qualifying anyhow - good for Nelsinho though -- I've been concerned for him.
i must honestly say
that i have less of a clue about todays race than any in the past 10 years. not that i dont enjoy watching, i just seem to be forgetting the drivers/teams/etc
I have no interest in watching cars go round and round the same track for hours on end,
but I'd just like to say Steve Ryder is one of the most annoying sports presenters in the history of the world.
It's not just his smug, monotonous voice but his smug, simple face- the ITV coverage of Euro 2008 was awful.
He'll be gone for next year though
As will most of them. Awesome.
Brundle's grid walks are brilliant
Once, he told Naomi Campbell to shift her arse out of the way so he could speak to someone else.
They used to be so much better
Mostly now it's just talking to celebrities who have something to promote, and say impossibly stupid things to try and sound like they have a clue. He seems to do that less now, but drivers are also more reluctant to talk now...
But
he just talked to Murray Walker followed by Sterling Moss
And then a string of stupid celebrities
I wish he wasn't starting
so close to Hamilton. I feel sick....
How come
Kovaleinen looks about double his age (26) in his caption photo?
*Kovalainen
is Finnish. They all look funny.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww
Webber....
Better not have hit Nick
Everyone's spinning!
Lolz... Coulthard's last British GP
Oh Nick
..........................
This is bad
Every sector Alonso is setting
is purple..... what the fuck?????
This is scary
He's ridiculously quick
i'm ferrari through and through
it was ridiculous how much i laughed when Raikkonen said he missed peles speech last year because he was having a shit.
Nick
was brilliant <3
OH MY GOD
<3
your boys doing rather well
good stuff indeed.
he's half a second faster
than everyone else
*5 seconds
I meant. Not now. But was.
and with some classy overtaking too
he's an absolute weapon out there.
The two double overtakes
were beyond awesome <3
Massa
What's he doing? Has his steering-wheel fallen off?
no
He's being Massa
I wouldn't want him any other way.
You always need a Massa in Formula One!
he reminds me of Olivier Panis
and Takuma Sato
Two of the greatest drivers
of the modern era.
He's more of a de Cesaris I think ;-)
Massa
What's he doing? Has his steering-wheel fallen off?
yes
OH
THANK
GOD
I've torn out tons of my hair
....oops?
And I'm shaking... and crying.
He needed that so much.
And was brilliant.
i wanted him to lose
the cunt
Uhhh.... reply in the right place?
Or put a name in there.
Unless you actually consider Nicky to be a 2cunt2... in which case you're an idiot.
oh dear
My fingers are shaking too much to use the shift key correctly...
whose nicky
i wanted hamilton to lose, the cunt.
That better?
........
Nico Rosberg.... who else?
sighhhhhhhhhh
I don't refer to him as nicky
but yeah...
Oh God.....
Why do you watch F1.....?
possibly
the same reason other people do, although i've never asked the question outright.
You're really not getting this
Are you?
I was talking about Heidfeld. As I have been in every post this thread. Which given my posts should have been remarkably obvious...
Ok.............
i wasn't supporting him either.
He's so tiny
Awww!
excellent race that
most enjoyable.
well happy for PM's boy too. he had a stormer.
see, this is why wet races are ace
Massa looked like he'd forgotten which way round the track he was supposed to go, Heidfeld was apparently bored of passing only one car at a time, Barichello doing the F1 version of "the football league is upside-down" and Hamilton trying to have the most boring race of anyone and probably managing it.
<3 rain
*Barrichello
They tend to show who the phenomenally talented drivers are
I can only remember Hamilton having two and he won them both comfortably.
Lewis just hit Nick
Poor Nick.
I can't believe we got through that
without a safety car. With about 25 laps to go I was basically crying hysterically expecting one.
yeah, no messy crashes
but some decent 'offs' (sutil's looked like fun from the on board camera!)
I loved this race. bit bummed out for webber though.
What the hell is the obsession with Heidfeld?
^ this
I've supported him for about 9 years now
No real reason, I just saw him in F3000 (the year he won the championship there) and he seemed like a great driver and an awesome person. Then he got the Prost racing seat after winning that and it instantly developed into a complete obsession. And I love it.
Aside from that
I really respect him as a person. you're fantastic :)
Fair enough, just a bit, well, weird and scary...
I remember those days too, some good races were seen. 1998 was the best season for me, Montoya, Heidfeld and Rodriguez (sadface)...2000 was good too, with Alonso winning a couple.
