Jetplane Landing face the backlash
Posted:
Sweet Jesus, could it be? Yes, it’s true! More than three and a half years since second album Once Like A Spark, DIY punk-rockers Jetplane Landing have completed work on their third long-player.
Entitled Backlash Cop and given a release date of June 4th, prepare yourselves for twelve more slices of is-he-singing-or-is-he-shouting-or-rapping-or-what?-based rawk this summer. DiS will hopefully be grabbing a word with frontman Andrew Ferris in the not-so-distant future, but in the meantime you can bloomin’ well visit the MySpace for a preview of new track ‘Lungs Of Punk’. Or you could just download it for the next couple of days from this link!, if it works.
More news as we get it but for now, tracklist me!
'Backlash Cop'
'White Music'
'Dizzy Gillespie For President'
'Lungs Of Punk'
'Why Do They Never Play Les Savy Fav On The Radio?'
'The Breaks (Part I & II)'
'Jamerson Used The Claw'
'Sam Cooke'
'Climbing Up The Face Of Miles Davis'
'Us And The Ringside Stars'
'Hendrix Sur La Lune'
'Song For Sonia Sanchez'

I'm having another listen to this
I listened to it last night and wasn't too impressed. I wasn't really too sure what to expect. They've been mentioning doing a funk album but I thought maybe they were taking the piss. I can see their point about trying to make it different from their last record, which was different to their first. It makes sense.
Anyway, this tune is growing on me and I'm starting to really like it.

this record
could go either way, its risky business

lol time
"why do they never play les savy fav on the radio?"
That can't be a final title!
If it is, or even if it isn't, they better open live shows with it, or I'm gonna shout it between every song!
Good to have these guys back. Maybe they will let us go on tour with them and teach us how to play guitar.

Hah

I've been lucky enough to hear the entire album and I think it's fantastic. Of course it's very different to their last two records, I suppose you could place 2, maybe 3 of the songs into the tracklisting of the previous two records, but in terms of scope and scale, it's highly ambitious. The guitar playing is fantastic, I've never heard a contempary rock act in the UK play some of the stuff that is on this record, while the drumming is intricate and concise.
It's multi-layered and takes a number of listens to begin digesting, not to mention trips to wikipedia to find out (if you're a musical philistine like myself) who the likes of Sonia Sanchez and Jamerson are.
In the UK, the press and music listeners constantly bemoan the lack of artists who throw caution to the wind and change things up and make the record they truly want to.
I suppose at the end of the day it'll either be their master of puppets or their st anger, although it deserves to be the former in my view.

i'm sure
i've had a conversation with andrew about les savy fav never getting on the radio!

Les Savy Fav
It's a finalised song title for the album...

Halfway into my first listen of 'Lungs of Punk' I wasn't so sure, but I've barely been able to stop listening to it since. It's fantastic. And somehow - even though it struck me as different at first - it's still sooooo Jetplane Landing. And that's a great credit to them, that they can retain their sonic identity even when they're attacking different styles. Rad.
I love this band and I'm very much looking forward to the new record.

Have listened to
'Lungs Of Punk' five or six times now. It took a couple of listens but I absolutely love it. The stuff they played at Truck was great too.
The new album should be amazing.
-
you should do
it's all worth waiting for :)

What happened to the national grid?!
Can. Not. Wait. For. This.
When they played Devizes and Truck the new songs were killer, and stood out above the rest.
I too was dubious of the funk feel to the album, but its hardly noticable - and still retains their sound! Mint!
