Deftones reveal more about new album, Eros
Posted:
Californian experimental metallers Deftones have revealed more about their new studio LP, working title Eros.
As reported here, work on the band's sixth album began in April. Now bass player Chi Cheng has added more details on the progress made:
"We've been locked into the studio, as you know, and are finishing the drum tracks on a song tentatively called 'Trempest'. It's heavy as fuck with a shitload of groove and even though it's been driving me crazy as it runs through my insomniatic brain, I am really excited! I always say this shit, but I truly believe this album to be well worth the wait and appreciate all your support and kind loyalty.
"The idea of finishing the album and getting out to play in front of y'all is a nice light at the end of my tunnel. We intend to tour extensively so don't fret."
Vocalist Chino Moreno has also spoken about the LP, to Kerrang! magazine:
"We've certainly taken our time on the last few records but this one has happened very quickly. We got off tour and took a month off. Then we went into the studio and wrote a lot of music very quickly... The most important thing we had to do was to break our habits and change the way we've done things for the last few years."
Eros, if it's called that, is due for release in the autumn. Meantime, here's one from the archive to tide you over...

can't wait
the last album was excellent. these boys can't seem to put a foot wrong.
-
I agree
Every album is incredible in it's own way. They're one of the few bands who seem to have been able to have enough variety in each seperate album withougt sacrificing their overall sound.
I sure hope they tour! I've never had chance to see them before. -
Stoked for this, especially if it's as good
as S/T and Saturday Night Wrist both were.

I think
deftones-deftones and saturday night wrist both seemed to slip under the radar for some reason, have to admit I don't entirely know if I have ever heard Saturday Night Wrist, and only 1 or two off Deftones stand out like hexagram.
But White Pony.. that should have one some kind of best album in the world ever award. It was in the right place at the right time and still to this day (I know it's not that old) pulls at the heart strings and fires people up all at once.
Perfection.

I didn't like White Pony very much,
it's one of my least favourite Deftones albums (second to Adrenaline).
-
Can't wait
Really like this band even after all these years!
-
They are probably one of the most consistent bands
As far as I'm aware they haven't had an actively BAD song on an album ever - bar a few average 'deftones by numbers' tracks that scatter the albums they're pretty much consistently on fire, 5 albums in.
Can't say that about many bands.

WHA??
white pony is one of the greatest records ever made. adrenaline and around the fur are also great. the last two records however, were SHITE.

Awesome news
White Pony
Around the Fur
S/T
Saturday Night Wrist
AdrenalineFor me.
-
subjective, innit.
White Pony was just largely mediocre to my ears, with the exceptions of Feiticeira, Elite, Korea & Passenger. The rest of it washed over me.
S/T & SNW both held my interest for alot longer. I find them much more subtle and enjoyable outputs.

You can't really compare
The first two to WP. WP was the start of the slower, more atmospheric era of the Deftones.
First two were just sheer rock.
For what it's worth, ATF is, imo, by far their best.
-
Good times
my third favourite band
-
can't wait ... again
im still currently trying to absorb the self titled and Saturday Night Wrist. As soon as I heard the song 'Beware' I knew I found my all time favourite Deftones song. Considering they listen to lots of different genres individually, can always guarantee their next opus will be another journey. Chino mentioned he was listening to loads of HUM recently. Which makes me fucking happy.
