Coldplay crack the Billboard Hot 100
Posted:
Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida', the title track of their new LP, has gone to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart stateside, the first time a UK group has reached the top spot in 11 years.
The album Viva La Vida... is the fastest-selling album of 2008 so far, currently at number one in the UK and nearing sales of half a million.
Viva La Vida, reviewed here, is released in the US this week. Will they lap it up like the UK has? Probs. Another notch: the album holds the record for the biggest number of iTunes pre-sales. Something to do with this advert?

doooom...
so this is the new anti christ then?

Jeez!
I can't imagine ever being in a band and being that excited by the idea of 'cracking America'. Do people even hope for number one records nowadays? I'm not sure what it means apart from a nice cheque and a more generic fanbase.

The first british #1 single in 11 years on the Hot 100
That's something to be proud about, I guess.

Unless I'm getting totally confused,
Leona Lewis was number one in the same chart in February.

Ah, pedantics.
"First UK Group"
She was the first UK female to reach the spot in 20 years according to Wikipedia though.
