The Cure score quadruple US chart success, release remix EP
Posted:
Robert Smith and his ever-reliable band of Goths have scored not one, not two, nor three, but four entries in the US top 20. The Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart (bit of a mouthful, that) currently features all of The Cure's past four releases - number ones, the lot of 'em.
Here's the roll of honour: 'The Perfect Boy (Mix 13)' sits pretty at #8, 'Sleep When I’m Dead (Mix 13)' just outside the top ten at #12, 'Freakshow (Mix 13)' trails at #16 while 'The Only One (Mix 13)' brings up the rear at #18.
What do we get? Since you ask, a remix EP, Hypnagogic States, hits the shelves - real and virtual - this very weekend. It features reworkings of the above tracks from the likes of Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Pete Wentz & Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Jade Puget (AFI), 30 Seconds To Mars and (former touring buddies) 65 Days Of Static. The date for your diaries? Saturday September 13.
Coincidence or something more sinister? You decide. Either way, all artist royalties from the EP will be going to a good cause: The International Red Cross. Ker-ching!
There's also a brand new Cure full-length, 4:13 Dream, landing on Monday October 27 courtesy of Suretone/Geffen - it'll feature all four chart-toppers, we're told.

the 65 remix is BOSS
21 minutes of joy

Can't wait to hear that.
Also looking forward to the album.

65 remix
highly original and special variations

am looking
forward to this but hope (beyond hope?) that it's better than the last three efforts.
BTW, no coincidence. Each of the previous 4 singles were released on the 13th of the month in recognition of the fact that this is their 13th album. The album was originally intended for 13 September, but I guess no major record label's gonna let symbolism screw with its release schedule.

2 decades
past their peak. and BOY did i love that peak but that's TWO DECADES people.
and to think people gave THE STREETS a kicking for 2 bad *albums* worth of material.

*Decade and a half
While obviously not as brilliant as Disintegration (could anything be as brilliant as that album?) Wish (1992) was nevertheless excellent.
