Remix Radiohead, and pay for the privilege (again)
Posted:
Radiohead, hey? They give away an entire album (okay, so a few people might have paid for it...) but then charge fans to remix its tracks. Talk about credit crunch. Just kidding, we love the 'Head. 'Reckoner' is pretty special too.
And as with 'Nude', they're giving budding producers the opportunity to take its constituent parts and turn them into something a bit different. How? Six 'stems' - comprising bass, lead vocals, backing vocals, guitar, piano/strings and drums - are available to purchase from iTunes, and will be for two weeks. Buy 'em and you'll get sent an access code to unlock a GarageBand file (you're not tied to that software, though: the audio is in iTunes Plus format) containing the relevant part.
The remix competition closes on October 23. Have a gander at this dedicated Reckon remix site for more information. The pros are at it too: here's 'Reckoner' as fiddled with by Diplo and Flying Lotus.
DiScuss: will you be entering? Is this just a cynical cash-in or a bit of harmless fun? Who would you like to see remixing Radiohead? How much do these 'stems' even cost?

-

79p isnt exactly megabucks. wouldnt even cover bandwidth costs - 11Tb for the last one according to their website.

if you remixed 'nude' then you get the stems free this time
:) much better stems to play around with in reckoner too.

The Diplo remix
is immense. Has he sampled Beirut in there?
-
pathetic
why can't they just call them 'multitracks' like the rest of humanity, 'stems' sounds so gay
-
Everyone I know says "stems" or "parts".
"Multitrack" means something else.
-
Sure does!
Multitrack = every single track separated
Stems = Sub-Mixed parts
IE: All drums on a stereo file, All backing vocals on another
