Radiohead use competition entry as official 'Reckoner' video
Posted:
Radiohead: perhaps the biggest web 2.0 band of them all? First they release their new album via the web, then they give fans the chance to remix In Rainbows' tracks and now they've picked an entry to a video-making competition as the official promo for new single 'Reckoner'. Talk about interactivity.
Frenchman Clement Picon's effort (watch it below) was chosen by the band from over 1,000 entries to the snappily named In Rainbows Music Video Contest. He also walked away with over £5,000. Ker-ching!
DiScuss: do you like this video? Is it just Radiohead's way of getting one made on the cheap? Is £5,000 cheap these days?!

Maybe a biit cheap (although I reckon he was happy with it)
But I love the video, and this is the best song on in rainbows.
much love

Flying Lotus remix
of this is pretty damn sweet

^
video is pretty cool

Stunning vid
and a great choice. Hope big things happen for Clement Picon on the back of this.

Its not like the guy had already made the video
and then sped and slowed parts up and down to make it fit to the song.
No
That didnt happen
-
wow
really brilliant video
-
it
makes me think of that simpsons episode where they dissolve the tooth and create life!
-
this guy
is awesome
i like the conceptbut it lacks relevance to the song, right?
-
Echoes of
Pyramid Song's video at the end there. Lovely.
-
Yep
It looks like a recycled show reel. It's fantastic animation of course, but doesn't seem to connect to the song in any serious way, or make use of the source files that Radiohead released.
I'm sure the artist is pleased with the money and publicity but £5k is a ridiculously cheap price for this kind of work and I think it reflects very badly on Radiohead that they're so tight towards fellow creatives. I wonder what they paid for the Pyramid Song video; I bet it wasn't anywhere near as low as that.
-
not really
its pretty standard Radiohead - humans destroying their planet, bit by bit. Its a beautiful video. I'm sure the guy doesnt care that he ONLY got £5k for it as know he's got "oh yeah, i made the video for a radiohead single" on his CV.
Its more relevant to the song than the other videos they've made for In Rainbows (which in just involved them - although that All I Need tv add/video thing is amazing)
-
Excellent video
Does the ending remind anyone else of the ending to Final Fantasy VII though? :\
-
tres bon
Yes, I'd agree with some of these comments, it's certainly one of the album's highlight's, and the video's marvellous.
