DiS 5.0 chaos: apologies and explanations
Posted:
Hello again,
The transition from the old site to the new site isn't going quite as smoothly and quickly as we anticipated. Many of you will have noticed a few extra bugs over the past few days which we're trying to remedy as quickly as possible.
The main reason why this is taking so long is that we didn't anticipate time it would take to turn the old database into the new database, nor how many browser incompatibility issues we'd hit. I'm happy to say the bulk of these issues are now resolved.
Things are changing more rapidly now and you should finally notice a fair few new additions to the site this week. In the meantime please bear with us and the short moments of downtime, as well as a few little irks with the site as we continue to shape shift very boring sounding things behind the scenes. Without these massive structural changes we can't begin the developments of the new-new DiS but everything should be vaguely usable now.
Any major issues? Pop them as a comment below.
Cheers,
Sean

We will be getting back our old threads?
And why is the old 'most recent posts' profile thing turned into 'most recent threads'?
-
in order to post this i had to squint to see the button
it was mixed up with the text of "royter hatfood"s post
also, the search funtion doesnt work.
-
YEAH
the old posts are still being transferred and translated into the new database.
we need to fix something so that replies and starting new threads are included in post counts and on peoples most recent posts. it's being fixed but it'll take some time.
-
yeah
this is to be fixed too, text is "just" in the wrong cell
-
heyyy
I have to log back in every time I open a new window. All the cookies on other sites seem ok. I'm using firefox 3.0.3. cheers!
-
no massive issues with me
other than sometimes it takes flippin yonks for the site to load...
-
I'll try but...
When I post anything, it shows me I've posted but then when I refresh the page or go to another thread, I'm logged out and my reply disappears.
Firefox 3
-
Bare
Bear shirley?
-
you may have got my last reply
as I've checked on IE7 and they are there.
This definitely is a FireFox problem.
-
Oh and in Firefox 3.o
When I make a new thread a box pops up asking me if I want to add a live bookmark. Weird.
-
grr
sounds like the fix for IE has buggered up firefox
-
In happier news
I like that you can hover over the thread title and get the first few lines without clicking on it. Is nice.
-
an aesthetic thing...
album ratings at the bottom of the reviews, really?
-
just ^^ this one really
i generally am enjoying most of it, to add a bit of positive feedback. one thing i would like to see (which i realize has bee aforementioned) is maybe having a 'threads started' as well as a 'more recent posts' tables on each user profile; i think it's a good idea to have the 'threads started' but not instead of, as well. :) thanks
-
Cant update profile
getting error occurred. Nothing major. You guys prob already know
-
total number of posts remain static
The "counter" which registers the total number of posts by users is broken. I've been stuck on the same amount for about a week...
-
One problem you need to sort is that you can't actually log out (IE7 with Norton 360)
I mean if you logout you get a page of code, and if you then press go-back hey presto you're still logged in
-
another is that the News menu cannot be found on the main menu
the only way I can navigate there is to pick a recent news story from the side table in and once it opens, click on Home/News above it
-
another point is that the News index is not listed under the menu
the only way I can navigate there is to pick a recent news story from the side table in and then click on Home/News above it
-
^^ this
works beautifully

The "forgotten your password" rest page
don't work from the email that is sent out, either the page is blank or there is now way of resetting your password.
I only know this as I thought I'd test it. Because I'm pedantic.
-
*reset page
Morning!
-
Cat paw!
Wicked.
-
It's still too bloody white.
Seriously, DiS is near migraine inducing now. If I switch tabs to a darker coloured website I get 'Nam flashbacks.
-
reset password
The reset password link doesn't work - as the guy above stated. I've had to register a new account to let you know. The new account also won't let me change my password, keep getting 404'd.
-
had to
go to old.drownedinsound to change my profile picture
never mind though
-
the same
six community threads have been on the front page in the same order for at least 24 hours, which woud appear unusual...
-
is that paw
hovering over a macbook air?
