Gonna have to tell us today: Franz announce new album
Posted:
They've taken their sweet time about it, but Scottish popsters Franz Ferdinand have finally announced details of their eagerly awaited third LP for Domino - but you'll have to wait until next year to get your mitts on it: January 26th is the release date.
Titled Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, the album contains twelve tracks recorded and produced by the band with assistance from Dan Carey (Hot Chip, CSS). A soundbite from FF frontman Alex Kapranos follows:
"
Tonight: Franz Ferdinand is music of the night: to fling yourself around your room to as you psyche yourself for a night of hedonism, for the dance-floor, flirtation, for your desolate heart-stop, for losing it and loving losing it, for the chemical surge in your bloodstream. It's for that lonely hour gently rocking yourself waiting for dawn and it all to be even again"
Has he been taking drugs? Anyway, here's a tracklisting:
1. Ulysses
2. Turn It On
3. Kiss Me
4. Twilight Omens
5. Send Him Away
6. Live Alone
7. Bite Hard
8. What She Came For
9. Can't Stop Feeling
10. Lucid Dreams
11. Dream Again
12. Katherine Kiss Me
DiScuss: excited? Indifferent? Seen them playing any of these songs live? DiS has. In Hull. It was fun, actually.

they
are boring
-
He said that?
Or was it in the press release?
Seems very eloquent for off-the-cuff. He must be practised.
FF aren't drugs music, are they??? Crikey!
-
i saw them a few months ago
i didn't recognise some songs. they sounded good.
-
fucking...
kapranos is so fucking pretentious..their second album was massively overrated and it'll be interesting to see what this one is like.
i read an article in q magazine recently and it was this big long spiel about how they were trying to figure out whether they were a pop band or whether they were a rock band who writes pop songs, blah blah..just fucking get on with it, who gives a shit? -
Sounds like a concept album.
What they played at Glasto was good - more 'disco' I guess, for want of a better word.
-
so tell us then
are they a pop band or a rock band that writes pop songs or a pop band that pretends to be a rock band so that they can sneak pop music into the...etc
-
bland indie disco fodder band
for people to pose on the dance floor to instead of getting down to the bussines of having fun and a boogie
-
Looking forward to this
If anything the second album is underrated, though it gets sloppy in the latter half (bar the great title track and Fade Together).
It's been a while though, so will have to see. And Franz Ferdinand is for posing to rather than having fun to? Rubbish. And I love how people always sneer at music when they say it's not 'fun' - there's music you like and music you don't. If you like it it's fun on at least some level anyway.
-
The new songs
sounded boring at Latitude.
-
yeah
got to say I disagreed with that posing comment too. I think Franz are all about having fun and silly dancing. The poses are just for their videos.
I know I heard some of these when I saw them this summer but I'm not sure which ones they were. "More disco" would be quite apt from what I remember. -
I wish more bands
gave quotes like that. It'l be good to have Franz Ferdinand back. Live dates before the end of the year??
-
thats just not true
they are fun and allow me to boogie
-
I think I mean that more towards indie discos in general
than franz specificly. I'm they are fun to some, they just annoy me a little bit trying to push them selves as some kind of dance band when there is so much good dance music out there that gets over looked.
-
they are a band who plays
songs with instruments. I know what youre saying, but dont read it if you dont care.. I find it interesting to hear what bands say about their music because i am interested in bands and music bla bla. Theyre not my favourite band by any means, but theyre allowed to say what they want to say, just like Nick Griffin or summat
-
i suppose my point
is they've been arsing around on this third album for a long time and they should maybe release some new music before theorising about their place in modern music
-
ooh.
'Katherine Kiss Me'
'Bite Hard'
'Lucid Dreams'
'Turn It On'Is it just me or do these seem like something a journalist would come up with in a nasty article about them? "What We Think The Titles Will Be In FF'S New Album"

You clearly cared enough
to read Q magazine.
-
nothing else to
read, on my lunch break at work. dunno why i'm justifying it anyway, it's not the magazine i'm giving out about, it's what franz were talking about in the article
-
Franz is great..
...and they seem genuine enough. Don't know what you're all going on about.
