Charlotte Hatherley quits Ash
Posted:
The website states that the split is entirely amicable, and quotes a statement from the former four-piece:
"After nine years, Ash and Charlotte Hatherley have mutually agreed to part company... they wish each other the very best for the future."
Ash are due to begin work on the follow-up to Meltdown later this year, while Hatherley - not so long ago seen by DiS's spies enjoying Deerhoof at the Garage - is currently working on her second solo record. Perhaps it'll sound like Milk Man?
Hatherley's album is due for an autumn release.

would be better
if it sounded like Milk Kan.
-
why do they always wish one another the very best in the future?
I pray for the day when we get a press release going "Idlewild have parted company with Rodney Woomble. Idlewild wish Woomble the very best in his future exploits; however Woomble hopes Idlewild eats shit and dies"
-
"When asked on his opinion...
...Bob Fairfoull pissed in our faces and called us doss cunts."
-
Care!
I used to well fancy her though.
-
used to?
once you pop, you can't stop.
though that might be pj harvey.
-
i told her i thought she was AMAZING
i was 16.
She gave me a peck on the cheek.
i died
-
damn
shame.
Hopefully it'll just be the three of them for their next album and they don't drag anyone else in but I doubt they can recreate the form circa Trailer album.
-
Nine years?
It can't be that long surely? They were a three piece for ages. Until little singer boy shaved a stupid tringle in his head at least. Remember that? Hilarious. Oh let's not forget their DJ... ahahahaha. Tossers!
-
Now,
When are Ash going to quit Ash?
I'd like to know
-
Maybe...
but Milk Kan trying to sound like Charlotte Hatherley'd be equally interesting.
-
FACT
i once hit her pretty hard on the head with a door. she got right pissed off, she was having a kip at the time.
pretty proud of that...
-
alas
they were part of my younger teenage years, girl from mars is a tune. admittedly they wrote some crap songs but my heart is still slightly torn by this news.
-
Good.
Ash were a million times better when they were a three piece and Charlotte's solo stuff is ace, so i'd say this is pretty good news.
-
This is sad
They were really starting to use the male-female vocal thing nicely on the last album. That said, from a songwriting point of view Tim Wheeler does pretty much everything I think so it won't make much of a difference to their sound. I'd like to see a new album in 2006 but looks like it'll be next year :(
-
What
was she doing sleeping with the sweep of a door?
-
Milk Kan...
are a laugh.
-
agreed
Nine years seems like an awful long time - I still think of Ash as a three piece, so to me they've just lost their bit of eye candy/session guitarist, who incidently, makes better records than Ash themselves.
-
.
I was really upset about this. Ash have been one of my favourite bands for so long and i thought they were just as good if not better with Charlotte than without.
-
Well...
shes not that nice like
-
Yeah but
You would.
-
Good.
Can't stand Charlotte Hatherley.
Now she can pose on her own. -
this news has
completely made my year. i was so fed up of her 'ooooohs' on top of everything. yay!
-
I asked her to marry me...
She didn't reply, she was tuning her guitar at the time...
-
I saw a band called
Rodan in Belfast on Friday night. 3 piece, Ash/Superchunk type sound. Seems their first gig was a joint headliner with Ash about 14 years ago. Rodan's singer/guitarist and bass player are married with a kid though and didn't take the music thing as seriously and let their chance at stardom slip by, going for the fun aspect instead. There you go.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
these days ash from crash is more entertaining

ASH FAN!
Well... Ash started as a 3 peice in 1992 and Chaz joined in 1997... They were an exellent band at the time with albums Trailer and 1977. She might have been "extra" for the Nu-Clear Sounds sessions, (an album which flopped unfortunately) but then she started rising and rising, and in the end Ash produced a masterpiece in Meltdown. A very UNDER-RATED album. I really really love Tim and Chaz's harmonising voices, they perfectly matched together and I think that in the end they were a better band than the three piece they were in 1995/1996. Her debut solo album was as good as Meltdown. It had patches with really excellent songs and some week ones. Meltdown was consistently good!
I simply can't believe this news... I'm sure they would have done a classic with Chaz for their 6th album... anyway i just hope this would be the best for both as i simply love them equally
(LONG LIVE ASH & CHAZ)
