U2: Walk On

When I lent back in my chair on some mild October day a few weeks ago and this came blaring out of my radio, I knew exactly what it was. It was a U2 record. It was a soaring, flowing, beautiful song that Dads world-wide would be tapping a steering wheel to.

Strangely then, "Walk On" is not a great record. If it were released by some unknown band from Ethiopia, then it would be. But the fact it's by the biggest band in the world, means that it's appeal suffers somewhat. When U2 released "One" in 1992, they more or less wrote the perfect U2 song. Everything else suffers by comparison. Some wags might even call this a glorified re-write.

But lets be nice to U2 though, eh? They've done what we wanted them to do and gone back to releasing 'proper' as my Dad says, records, as opposed to messy Dance-infested mistakes. Yes, I also remember "Discotheque". And what about all that nice charity work ol' Bono has done?? How nice of him.

A great U2 record then. But not necessarily a great song.
