Ash: Envy

Oh Ash, let me count the ways that I love thee... No, sorry, too many. The band with the most under-rated second album in music history (and believe me, there are many) return with the precursor to their 'Intergalatic Sonic Sevens' singles collection. This of course provokes two reactions; firstly "is that not the coolest title for a Best Of album ever?" (answer, yes) and; "Have they been around that long already?" and once again, the answer is yes. Don't take them for granted, they're not going to be around forever, and even if they are, they'll look pretty shit past 40, and surely, this gold seam of songwriting magnificence can't keep going for another 19 singles?.

The song? Well, brilliant, of course. A typically concise stomping power pop song with bags of atttitude, a verse as infectious as the chorus and a killer middle eight. With added girl-group-esque sighs and Ronettes-lite backing vocals courtesy of Charlotte (I presume), it's a life-affirming brew. And Tim Wheeler can say "c'mon baby" better than anyone.

Ash - Envy

Yes, thank you! Nu-clear sounds is such a fantastic album!...saw em at Reading again this w/e, so glad they played tons off 1977 and Life less ordinary though lacking some off Nu-clear sounds...On the subject of Envy, yes truely classy pop cheese we've come to expect from Ash but what's with the 'From the North to the South, East to the West' rap? Now that's questionable, bless u Tim hehe

Re: Ash - Envy

wasn't nuclear sounds the 3rd album? like, whadda bout trailer?

Mini Album

Trailer was a mini album really, and they always seem to fall into a grey area. I refer to 1977 as their debut alum at any rate. Although mini albums are ace. One Day At A Time (symposium) and Alcopop (midget), are two that spring to mind.

On the subject of Envy, I think its crap. it sounds like Ash regurgitating themselves. and to think that they used to be my favourite band.

Re: Mini Album

This SO rips off Supergrass that I thought it was THEIR new single, and it'll be a while before it sinks in that it' NOT them. The Ronettes Chorus?.... methinks Ash were influenced by someone rather closer to home...
