Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Ain't No Easy Way

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club explain in the press release that their forthcoming album Howl, from which this single is taken, represents a bit of a departure for the band. The explanation is that, having thrown everything they possibly could into their last record, they couldn’t think of a way to take rock’n’roll forward. So their next album will mainly be featuring country, blues, folk, soul, r’n’b and pop.

Hmmm. Well, I suppose there’re only so many ways to rip off The Jesus and Mary Chain. But when looking for another legacy to plunder they could always have chosen that of another rock’n’roll band, rather than the ill-favoured Bob Dylan/Bon Jovi hybrid for which they seem to have gone. BRMC have always been something of a dumb band, but at least they used to be big and dumb. Now they’re merely dumb, and listening to this record in all its ill-conceived New Direction antiglory is just really, really embarrassing.

hmmm-This band have been getting worse with every album, but I enjoyed the acoustic on "take them on, on you own" so when I heard about this was excited. Alas, the Bob-Jovi comment is true...

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

I think it's quite good to be honest.
At least they're challenging themselves and going for something different.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Cool name, have always been a terrible band. Taking some german visitors to watch them and cooper temple clause at brixton academy the other year was a lesson in mundane indie rock that I wasn't expecting.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Great song, great album. Better than their last disappointing album.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Terrific song. Not many songs can make me sing their chorus after just one listen but this did it's that catchy. I've got the album and it is also terrific, best thing they've done in my opinion. So fair play to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, I wish them luck with Howl and hope it is more successful than Take Them On, On Your Own.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Can't say i'm really excited by the idea of a new BRMC single !
I liked their first album, but after seeing them live and listening to their really poor second album, i forgot about them.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

That's a pretty high score for a song that's a "Bob Dylan/Bon Jovi" hybrid from a "dumb band". WTF?

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Wa

I thought that too, but it's actually the average band rating thing. Holly doesn't give scores out of five cos......she wants us to read her reviews I guess...

I quite like it, I couldn't give a shite if they're JAMC rip-off merchants, they have written some good songs. Second album was meh. I probably won't buy this album, but this single sounds decent.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

nah nah, you've got to give it to BRMC for being strong enough to completely change their sound.

ok, both their albums get boring and are hard to listen to all the way through, but they've got some killer songs which come down with a storm live - correction, BRMC are AMAZING live.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

When i saw them, BRMC were incredibly boring.
One of my worst gig ever !

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

It was always mystifying why anyone wanted to rip of the Jesus & Mary Chain in the first place - one of music's more overrated bands of all time.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Wa

I also like Four Tet.
What's your point?

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

J & M Chain are one of the greatest band ever.
BRMC never sounded like them that much.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Wa

I don't get the JAMC comparison at all.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Erm if anyone thinks that BRMC didn't sound like JAMC, well they just haven't listened to the right records.

Its quite patently obvious to anyone who has a decent JAMC collection that they aped them. Nothing really wrong with that - decent reference point and they had their own tunes. JAMC were always much much better but the first BRMC CD was good.

But this latest track - different? - ha! That's a laugh, it's about as as different as a blade grassin a twenty acre field! Drab, boring rubbish - welcome to the end of your career BRMC.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

I have a very decent JAMC collection, and i can see the comparisons between them and BRMC.
But i do think that BRMC weren't that much close to JAMC in their first album and certainly not aping.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

I'm a big fan of JAMC but I think BRMC is better. JAMC had a lot of shite songs to go with the Just Like Honey/April Skies stuff we remember. Their albums were almost always a little inconsistent. BRMC don't have those low low's but neither do they have the high high's, but I still rate 'em higher.

But of course I can see the comparision. Heck, they probably stole their name from that Motorcycle tune off Psychocandy.

Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Nah they got it from the film The Wild Ones.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

You tried putting this tune on in the car yet? Superb on a sunny day in Sheffield! Gonna go buy it......

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

Holl(i)y, what's with the rating? I like your rateless reviews, makes me read once in a while.
